Huntington CSA Welcome to the **2023 Season** !!

 Happy Spring!

Hope you all had a pleasant Memorial Day Weekend enjoying the lovely weather, whether you stayed close to home or traveled far and wide.

And also hope you’re looking forward to another year of being a member of Green Thumb CSA – Huntington 😊!

The thing to do right now is to reply “YES” so you can be put on the 2023 CSA Member list for this season.

You have till Sunday, June 4th, before 7pm, to let me know if you want to start picking up the first week of the CSA, as I have to contact our farmer that evening to let him know the number of CSA Members to bring food for on Thursday, June 8th.

If you’re interested in working at the CSA on any Thursday in June (8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th) either from 3:30pm to 5:30pm (Early) or 5:30pm to 7:30pm (Late), please let me know and will put you on the list, and then you’ll get a confirmation (once I figure out the schedule) no later than the Monday morning of the week you’d be working (and possibly sooner).

The CSA paperwork to sign up will be in a second email being sent shortly after this one, and info about your options to submit your checks and contract will be in that email as well.

If you’re in need of a CSA Share Partner (please specify bi-weekly, weekly or either…bi-weekly is the least challenging option to find), get in touch and will put you on the list and get matchmaking! 😊

This year’s updates…

The first day of our CSA is Thursday, June 8th, and the season will extend for 28 weeks (same number of weeks as last year), and the last day will be Thursday, December 14th.

I know everyone was supposed to receive the CSA cookbook From Asparagus to Zucchini last year, there obviously were delays and I’m very sorry for that. Everyone will be getting that cookbook this season whether you’re rejoining or not. And, everyone who rejoins this year will be getting another CSA cookbook…Farm-fresh and Fast. If you have anyone join the CSA as a new member and they mention your name, you’ll be getting yet another most excellent cookbook (to be decided…but it will be a winner).

The CSA Share price has increased $2.00 per week (from $20 to $22), and the Herb Share Price has gone up $1 per delivery (from $5 to $6 per delivery which translates to $3.00 per bunch up from $2.50).

The CSA farm tours are now being referred to as the Spring Harvest Tour and the Fall Harvest Tour (but other than the name change, they’re the same events as last always).

Tentative list for this season’s restaurant outings (more info to follow)…

June – Blind Bat Brewery (Centerport…eco eats and beer/wine)

July – Teranga (Manhattan - African healthy fast casual) + visit to the Museum of the City of NY (exhibit – Food in NY: Bigger than the Plate)

August – Thai USA (exploring Bitter Melon…the most amazing vegetable on the planet for healthy living)

September – Superiority Burger (Manhattan - best veggie burger in NYC plus great seasonal desserts and more)

October – Kohaku (Melville - exploring Natto…a Japanese superfood)

November – Candle (Manhattan - classic vegan restaurant empire which used to consist of Candle Café, Candle West Side, and Candle 79 is now down to one…still very good…went recently)

December – Just Salad (Melville – more than salad…focused on eating healthier and doing better for the environment – you can purchase a reusable bowl and get a free topping when you bring it in to use it…I have two of them for when I get takeout for me and mine 😊)

If there are any outstanding issues from last year’s CSA (and there are), they’ll be dealt with once the CSA gets going.

Any questions, please get in touch.

Organically yours,

suzanne
