Greetings!
This Saturday is one of the two times of the year we CSA
members (and immediate family only) get the opportunity to take a behind the
scenes tour of our CSA farm (our farm – Green Thumb Farm - doesn’t do
farm tours for the general public), get to meet our farmers and their family
(some will be probably working at the farm stand…Patti and/or JoHanna), get to
see where our food is growing, hang out in the fields to pick what’s in season
(there may be some Strawberries left and if there are…I WILL FIND THEM 😊),
and take home some great local, certified organic food…for FREE (there’s
always good eats at our farm 😊)! There may be other
CSA members joining us from Brookhaven Labs, the CSA at Green Thumb Farm, and
the Cobble Hill, Brooklyn, CSA locations as well.
There will be a 10% discount to all CSA Members who take
this tour on all purchases made at the Green Thumb Farm farm stand after your
tour (produce, non-perishables, flowers, Green Thumb Farm merch AND organically
grown seedlings for your home garden)). Sweet! 😊 They have a great selection of curated foods at
their farm stand. Some of which you’ll only find out east.
So, pick your tour time, and let’s go on our Green Thumb CSA
Spring Harvest Farm Tour (though it will be summer, we’re harvesting food grown
in the spring 😊)!
It’s a walking farm tour for CSA members and immediate
family only (if you share a CSA Share usually the CSA Member goes on one tour,
and the CSA Share Partner goes on the other farm tour and signs up using the
CSA Member’s name in addition to theirs)!
This tour is rain or shine (unless we’re talking torrential
rain/thunder storms). Dress appropriately for walking on dirt roads and in the
fields (sandals/high heels not recommended 😊), and be prepared for
being in the sun during peak sun exposure hours (10am to 4pm -
sunglasses/hat/sunscreen, etc.). I’ve never gotten ticks on one of these tours
yet, but I’d do a thorough tick check once you got back home (they have a
roving band of marauding Guinea Hens that take care of eating most of them I
believe 😊).
If you stop off to eat at Barrow Food House for lunch, you
DEFINITELY will have some good eats. Am planning on going to lunch after the
last tour to Barrow Food House in Riverhead (farm-to-table and reasonably
priced for the area), and everyone’s invited (they have indoor and outdoor
dining options)…or go on your own if you’re going earlier. Have been there a
few times…it’s all good…

If you want breakfast/brunch before your farm tour, right
next door to the farm stand is Hampton Coffee Company… https://hamptoncoffeecompany.com/pages/water-mill
.
If you know you’re going, and what time, please let me
know (the tour time you’ve chosen and number of people in your party) so I
can let our other CSA members have an idea of who’s going (and if you want to
offer to rideshare or need a ride with someone….I have room in my SUV for one
person if anyone wants/need a ride - you will be kidnapped to go Barrow Food
House after the tour 😊, and may stop at
Briermere Farm on the way back), and give our farm an idea of how many people
will be there for each time slot (and have enough picking baskets ready).
If you get up Saturday morning and decide to join in…no
problem…just call the farm at 631-726-1900 and let them know you’re on the way!
😊
I’m allowing myself 2 hours to get there (WAZE says 1 ½ hours).
So far, the weather looks like it will be warm (73…cooler
than Huntington and, breezy, with AM showers (which could end before the first
tour starts…or not 😊, and of course this can
change between now and when you arrive at the farm because Huntington weather
is not necessarily the same as Water Mill weather).
Any questions…get in touch!
At the moment who’s coming is….

Where to go/park when you get there…Green Thumb Farm,
829 Montauk Hwy., Water Mill, - go PAST the Green Thumb Farm farm stand and
make the SECOND right turn (as long as you’re headed east which I’m going to
assume you’ll be doing…if not, you’re on your own 😊)
on to Rose Hill Road, and park your car on the right side of the road near the
FIRST driveway/entrance, and then walk down the driveway and you’ll see a
sign-in area where you’ll gather to be ready to start your farm tour!
