Huntington CSA **2022 Season** 2nd member Culinary Extravaganza Dining Out event of the year, Sat. 7/23 @ 4:30pm Paulie Gee's Greenpoint, Brooklyn RSVP by Sat. July 16th Plz!

 Greetings!

To all who came last month to Organic Krush in Woodbury…thanks! And it seemed like all 14 of y’all had a good time ๐Ÿ˜Š!

So this month we have (drum roll please…ta-ta-da-DAAAAA ๐Ÿ˜Š)…

Saturday, July 23rd

4:30pm to ???

CSA Culinary Extravaganza – July edition

Paulie Gee’s (& Van Leeuwen Scoop Shop)

60 Greenpoint Ave.

Greenpoint, Brooklyn

RSVP by Saturday, July 16th (the restaurant would like a week’s notice)…

respond to this email with the number in your party (ex. – zoubeck +1), OR leave a voice message including the number in your party at 631-421-4864

This month is omnivore, vegan, and possibly gluten-free friendly. If you have GF issues, contact Paulie Gee’s for their options (Soup & Salad? But then again, they make Pizza here so there’s gluten flying around in the air which may or not be an issue depending on one’s level of sensitivity), and Van Leeuwen has GF Ice Cream options, but they’re not certified Gluten-Free (read here… https://vanleeuwenicecream.com/faqs/ ).

What I’d advise is for any single people attending to consider sharing a Pizza with someone (one pie is good for two people to share) if you’re going to get a Salad or Soup, otherwise, you might be ok with one pie for yourself (6 slices…but not huge old school Long Island slices ๐Ÿ˜Š). We can work that out when we get there, and it will work out just fine and be DELICIOUS! ๐Ÿ˜Š Plus, maybe some of us can share pies to get different flavors. We usually get individual checks per party or table, so it makes it easier to figure out who owes what.

Also, let me know if you want to carpool, or have room in your car for someone to ride with you (with the price of gas these days…it’s something you might consider ๐Ÿ˜Š).

Schedule so far…

4:30pm – gather (they won’t seat us till everyone arrives)

5pm – let’s get the party started

7:30pm (or whenever we’re done)– take an after-dinner stroll down the block to Transmitter Park which is right on the East River with a stellar view of Manhattan (it’s still as lovely as I remember it)

8pm (or whenever the urge for a snack hits us) – over to Van Leeuwen in Williamsburg for dessert (there’s one in Greenpoint but it’s smaller and this one is just a 5-minute ride away and there will be seating for everyone)

204 Wythe Ave

Williamsburg

And when done…head home, or to parts unknown! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Why are we going here? It’s considered one of the best Pizza places in the NY Metro area AND Paulie makes a point of trying to use local food purveyors (Gotham Greens rooftop farm/Hometown BBQ meat/Mike’s Hot Honey/Chop’t/Greenport Beer and other local beers, etc.)…

https://pauliegee.com/greenpoint/

There are other Paulie Gee’s in MD, IL, OH, and his Slice Shops in Greenpoint, NY, and LA, IL, PA.

If you want to learn a little more about how Paul Giannone became Paulie Gee you can read/listen here…

Any why Van Leeuwen? They’re “glocal” (a combo of local and global concern for where they source their ingredients from), and good people (check out their origin story ๐Ÿ˜Š)…

While you can get their Ice Cream pints in various locations (Whole Foods, Walmart, etc. – check their website for where), at the Scoop Shops you can get Sundaes, and flavors they don’t have anywhere else. This past weekend I sampled an artisinal Coffee Dark Chocolate and a Marionberry Cheesecake (they let you have a taste before you buy…not sure if there’s a limit on the numbers of flavors you can try…some places do).

I used to be acquainted with Ben & Laura when they first started (when it was food truck only, before the first bricks & mortar store), but somehow never managed to meet Ben’s brother Pete who’s now running the west coast end of the business (along with Laura who divorced Ben but is still part of the team). Very lovely people.

There are other Van Leeuwen Scoop Shops in NY (check for other locations Brooklyn & Manhattan…none in Queens or on Long Island), NJ, CA, TX, PA (and soon CT & CO).

And the food all tastes pretty good! ๐Ÿ˜Š I Have been going to both places for a number of years, and made a trial run this past weekend since I haven’t been to either since what I refer to as “the before times”.

It took about 1 hr. and 15 minutes to get there on a Saturday night using the WAZE app  (we got there at 8pm), and then we got parking no problem BUT I’d allow myself for another 10 minutes in case you need to drive around the block to find something. I’d suggest the blocks parallel to the water (and make sure to read the signs to avoid tickets…or to find spots…we got ours because it was truck parking only during the week, but we read the fine print and were fine on Saturday).

Check out the Paulie Gee’s menu (I HIGHLY advise it since the menu is pretty overwhelming, and you’ll need to pare down your choices to be able to order)…

Feel free to ask me any questions about the menu (we’ve had a number of these pies…but there are always new ones and many we haven’t tried).

And check out the menu for Van Leeuwen and both regular Ice Cream…

And vegan Ice Cream…

LET’S EAT! ๐Ÿ˜Š
