Greetings!
We’re getting Bitter Melon this week at our CSA!
If you’d like to join a bunch of us tonight at 7pm for
Bitter Melon 101 at Thai USA in Huntington village, and get some ideas as to
how to cook it and how it might taste, call the restaurant at 631-427-8464
after 5pm, and leave your name and number in your party (reservation name of
group…suzanne), and we’ll see you later (you can have mine…I get it here all
the time ๐ )!
Everyone can order and pay for their own food, but we’ll all
be treated to some extra Bitter Melon dishes to check out at no additional cost
(Bitter Melon stir fry with Egg…typical Thai style, Bitter Melon w/out Egg…if
there are any vegans, Bitter Melon Soup…non-vegan with Pork or Beef). You can
always ask for Bitter Melon at Thai USA (though it’s not listed on the menu)
BUT they don’t always have it. If they do, it’s only the stir-fry version
(which you can order vegan style if that’s what you prefer).
Thai USA is a family run business that‘s been in Huntington
for a VERY long time (thinking 15 years at least?). Owner/chef Danny, ex-wife
Tiki, and their daughter Pat, have been working hard at keeping the locals
happy, while showing them a taste of Thailand. The menu runs from classic Thai
dishes to fusion mashups. Danny was raised near water so he’s a fan of cooking
seafood and fish. There was another Thai place in the same building (or next
door?) before them which was the first Thai restaurant in Huntington (to the
best of my memory) but it wasn’t very good (will tell story of eating there if
asked ๐ ).
So far there’s 11 of us…
