Greetings!
Health minded (vegan and paleo friendly) Northport eatery,
The Purple Elephant, may get shut down (or forced to move which I’m sure they
don’t want to do, and probably can’t afford to relocate) by the powers that be
in Northport.
If you would like that to not happen (either because you’ve
been there and liked it, or haven’t and you’d like to try it), please consider
showing up tonight…
Wednesday, June 22nd
7pm
Northport Town Hall
224 Main St.
And spread the word!
Here’s the menu to get an idea of what they serve…
It sounds wacky to me. The Purple Elephant has been in
existence for a number of years, and it took that long for Northport to notice
that maybe they weren’t properly zoned to be where they are? Now, they had to
get building permits all along the way and again, nobody noticed??? It’s like
they were hiding in plain sight…and they didn’t know they were hiding.
What do I know???
Anyhoo…this is what owner/Chef David had to say…
It
has come time for us to ask you the people and community of Northport Village
to come to our support and show Northport Village Zoning Board that we are
loved and needed within this community. On Wednesday, June, 22 at 7:00 pm at
Village Hall the hearing for our "Special Use Permit" application is
being considered by the board. Just to be clear, we are asking the Village to
acknowledge us... as a restaurant in the marine district and to allow us to
continue with the number of seats we have been actively operating with for the
past two (2) years. While we appreciate the support from all of our patrons, at
this point the support from Northport Village residents is vital to keep us
operating as we are at Britannia Marina. I would also like to emphasize that
this is a request for positive re-enforcement for our cause. We are looking to
comply with Village and have everything made official by their laws. We are NOT
looking to be combative. We just want support that shows that we are a positive
attribute to this community and that the diversity we bring to Northport
village is needed and wanted.
With that in mind, Northport Village residents, please come this Wednesday
at 7:00 pm to Village Hall and give us your respectful support. We have over
1000 petition signatures in our favor, but the voice of the people still holds
power and makes a difference. We thank you again for your continued support,
and you have our word that we will do everything possible on our end to stay
right here in Northport Village
We thank you in advance for supportive presence on June 22, at 7:00 p.m. at
NORTHPORT VILLAGE HALL, 224 Main Street, Northport, NY
So…that’s the scoop.
PS – they’re not moving to Costa Rica either (something else that was
floating around).
Best wishes…suzanne
