Happy Spring!
My apologies for the late notice. There have been a lot of delays,
but our CSA is starting next week, Thursday, June 4th! 😊 It’s
a 28 week season starting June 4th, to December 10th.
Am hoping you’re as eager as I am to start another year of CSA
good eating, and are ready to join up again this year. The greenhouses are
packed with delicious vegetables and herbs, and beautiful flowers, that will
soon make their way into the fields, and then to us!
The first step is to reply to this email and say “YES” to get on
the membership list for this year. The deadline to be included in the
first week of our CSA is Sunday, May 31st, no later than 10pm.
Everyone who signs up by this Sunday will automatically be entered
in a raffle with a 1st and 2nd prize. The prizes are two excellent
books by Marion Nestle (molecular biologist, nutritionist, public health
advocate and personal heroine of mine)…What to Eat Now (spoiler alert…it’s
local and organic 😊), and Feed Your Pet Right: the
authoritative guide to feeding your dog and cat. The first prize winner gets to
choose which book first, and the 2nd prize winner will get the
remaining book.
If you want/need someone to share with you this season, please let
me know (either to rotate pickups every other week, or divide the CSA Share up
weekly).
The next CSA email you’ll be getting will have the CSA Contract
and other info as attachments, so check your spam/junk folder in case it ends
up there.
The next step will be filling out the CSA Contract, plus getting
the two checks/money orders (or cash) required for payment, and handing
everything in by either (it’s too late to submit by mail)…
- Dropping
the CSA contract and two checks/money orders (not recommended if paying in
cash) off at the Cinema Arts Centre Box Office when the theater is open (7
days a week, check times on their website www.cinemaartscentre.org
)
- Stopping
by the Sky Room Café at the Cinema Arts Centre (where our CSA is held)
this Thursday, May 28th, and Sunday, May 31st, from
3:30pm to 7:30pm, and either drop off your contract and checks/money
orders (or cash), OR fill the contract and checks out there if you need a
copy of the CSA Contract to fill out (will have CSA contracts printed out
if needed)
- Bring
the CSA Contract and both checks/money orders (or cash) to the first day
of the CSA on Thursday, June 5th
Please let me know which of these 3 options you plan to do so I
have an idea of when to expect to see your paperwork.
I need to call the farm this Sunday night (Sunday, May 31st)
with the number of people who’ll be starting the CSA next week so if you’d like
to start the first week of the CSA (Thursday, June 4th), you need to
let me know by Sunday, May 31st, no later than 10pm.
This Sunday, I also need the number of people who’ll be getting
Flower Shares in case Flower Shares will be showing up the first week of the
CSA, so let me know if you’re planning on getting any Flower Shares, and how
many.
If you know of anyone who might be interested in joining our CSA
this season, please have them get in touch with me right away (or get me their
contact info and I’d be glad to get in touch with them), especially since I’m
not sure when our farmers are going to stop accepting new CSA members this
year. New CSA members (anyone who wasn’t a CSA member in 2025) get the cookbook
From Asparagus to Zucchini, and if they’re a member of the Cinema Arts Centre,
they get $55 off the initial cost of joining our CSA (this is for new members
only). The more the merrier 😊!
FYI - other dates to put on your calendar now😊…
11am and noon
Green Thumb Farm Spring CSA Farm Tour
Green Thumb Farm
829 Montauk Hwy
Water Mill, NY
For CSA members and immediate family only. We get to tour our farm
twice a year and this is the first one. It’s a walking tour of approximately
one hour given by one of our farmers. They don’t do any agritourism so this is
a rare chance to get a behind the scenes tour of how our food is grown, to meet
the people growing our CSA food, and to ask our farmers if you have any
questions about our CSA food OR about your own home gardens. For everyone
attending the CSA tour, there’s a 10% discount on all purchases at the farm
stand AND they have an amazing selection of seedlings for your home garden.
After the last tour, anyone who’d like is welcome to accompany us to a most
excellent restaurant called Barrow Food House in Jamesport (on the way back).
It’s a farm-to-table place that’s very reasonably priced for the area (can get
a meal for $16 to $26 on average). More info to come.
Wednesday, June 24th
6pm to 8pm
CSA Culinary Extravaganza
Blind Bat Bistro Brewery
94 Washington Drive
Centerport
This will be the LAST event at Blind Bat as the owners, Paul &
Regina, are opting out of the restaurant business so get it while you can!
They’ll have a special menu created for us, we’ll pre-order, and have a
delicious last supper of homemade, local and/or organic food, and beer/wine.
It’s a small eatery so the first 13 people to sign up can attend (capacity is
16 and there’s 3 in my party). More info to come.
PLUS, this year there are other restaurant outings planned for
local places that support organic food and/or local food (Organic Krush, True
Food), AND a few that are a bit more adventurous (Thai USA…for Bitter Melon
101, Fortune Wheel or The Orient…for Dim Sum, Indonesian Food Fair…for
Indonesian food, Indian food in Hicksville’s Little India).
Organically yours,
suzanne
