TONIGHT Friday 11/22/2024!!! Last Call for the Huntington CSA Culinary Extravaganza @ True Food in Roosevelt Field Mall **2024 Season**

The weather is going to be a bit rainy, so it’s a good night to do dinner and maybe a movie (not the best outdoor weather so places might be less crowded 😊).

So far, WAZE (the community-driven navigation app) says to arrive at 6:30pm, one should leave at 5:55pm (but this could change as the day goes on so I’ll check before I’m getting ready to leave). The restaurant is located past Nieman Marcus and before the restaurant Small Batch (there’s a U-shaped cut out between those two spaces and True Food is kind of in the middle of that space). Here’s a map of the mall and if you zoom in you’ll see it…

 Someone asked, so I’ll answer…

6:30pm – enter and settle in and order (either there will be individual checks written OR they may request that single diners share a check with another single person to cut down on work for the waitstaff…we’ve done this a number of times and it’s worked out so far)

Food starts to come out and let the eating begin 😊!

8:30pm - dinner winds down and we have our raffle, see if anyone is up for watching a movie (see what’s available in terms of options and seating availability) and head out into the night sated and with a smile (either headed to a movie or home) 😊

The option of going to the movies at the nearby AMC Roosevelt Field look pretty questionable, BUT on the drive back, we pass the AMC Raceway 10 in Westbury (have been there before) and depending on when we finish dinner, and who feels like going to a movie, so far our chances look better there (maybe the 9:15pm show of Wicked?)…

Have you ever heard of Dr. Andrew Weil? If so, you know 😊. If not, he’s a holistic MD, author, AND restauranteur! Dr. Weil is based in Arizona (that’s where the first True Food Kitchen opened up), but now he has FORTY-SIX True Food Kitchen restaurants around the country in EIGHTEEN states, and the ONLY one in the state of New York is in Garden City at the Roosevelt Field shopping mall!

Here's Dr. Weil’s website (though at the moment I’m annoyed I can’t sign up for his emails as none of the links to do that  seem to be working…I emailed them about it)…

The menu is based on his whole food anti-inflammatory diet (I know this doesn’t sound very exciting…but it’s a good thing 😊), some of the ingredients are organic (and so are some of the alcoholic beverages 😊), the beef is grass-fed, the fish are sustainably caught, it’s vegan friendly and gluten-free friendly (though I don’t believe they are certified gluten-free…there’s a difference…so if you’re interested you could call the restaurant to check), just found out they eliminated cooking with seed oils (which is impressive and it’s a good thing), AND the food is very tasty as well as healthy. The menu changes with the seasons so they can feature seasonal ingredients (and our CSA is all about seasonal ingredients 😊).

Here’s the general Garden City location website…

As usual in these events, I’ve done the research and eaten many of the dishes on the menu 😊 so feel free to ask about them (though not all because they do keep changing and adding). The only meh thing I’ve gotten (been eating here since it’s opened) is the Spaghetti Squash entrΓ©e BUT I’d try it again and ask for some Salsa or Hot Sauce to kick it up a notch (as Chef Lagasse says) as it was a bit bland otherwise (and maybe since then they’ve tweaked the recipe and it’s more flavorful than it was…or maybe you like keeping it simple and would think it was fine just as is…different strokes for different folks 😊).

If you’d like to attend (and we hope you would 😊), respond to this email with your last name, and the total number of people attending BEFORE 3PM TODAY (for CSA Members and immediate family BUT if you’re coming on your own you’re welcome to bring a guest to keep you company). Children of all ages welcome 😊.

Going so far (party of 10)…

 PLENTY of ROOM for MORE!!

There will be a raffle for a wonderful cookbook (name to be revealed at the event 😊) and all who attend will automatically be entered.

 See you later 😊!
