Greetings!
Annual CSA Strawberry Pickin’ Farm Tour (rain or shine)
Green Thumb Farm
Our farmers would like an RSVP for the
farm tour this Saturday. Please see details (3 tour times) below then call the farm at 631-726-1900 between
9:30am and 4:30pm.
Even with requesting an RSVP…you could still get up Saturday
AM, call the farm when they open at 9am and get there in time for any of the
three tour times.
If you have a garden (or a deck or porch or sunny
windowsill) and plant anything edible, you can purchase organically grown
seedlings at Green Thumb Farm when you visit (and get 10% off!). Green
Thumb Farm has many herbs, Sungold mini Tomatoes, all sorts of wonderful
edibles for your vegetable garden or yard (or deck, porch, stoop, or window
sill J ). If you want to know if
they have what you’re interested in, give our farm a call and ask (Green Thumb
Farm 631-726-1900).
We’re invited to visit our farm twice a year and this is one
of them (next one not till October). The weather so far looks like it will be
sunny and not too hot (yay! J ).
If you’re never been, a good time will be had by all. If you
have, there’s always new things to learn about what’s going on at our farm. The
farm is really lovely, you get to see where your food is coming from and meet
our 12th generation farmers (and see other family members at the
farm stand…all of them really appreciate meeting the people who are eating the
vegetables, herbs and fruits of their hard labor), you get 10% off at the farm
stand (they have great non-produce foodstuffs too) and…who doesn’t like being
out east in the summer?
If you want to catch a ride, or offer space in your car, get
in touch. People can meet at the Cinema Arts Centre and carpool from there.
The drive takes about 1 ½ hours this time of year, but I’m
sure you’ll check with whatever driving/GPS program you use to get the latest
info. Since I’m arriving at 12:30pm I plan to give myself 2 hours in case of
heavier traffic (usually the later you go the more traffic there is).
If you know you’re attending, let me know and I’ll email the
list to give everyone an idea as to who’s going, as the list is updated. This
info only goes to CSA members and isn’t posted anywhere.
You don’t have to RSVP the farm so if you wake up Saturday
morning and are inspired to go…great! J
It’s a one hour walking tour of a small section of the farm
(it IS 100 acres) that ends with us getting set loose in the Strawberry patch
to pick Strawberries! Everyone that comes is given a quart basket to fill. If
want more Strawberries than that, you can purchase more at the farm stand AND
you get it at a 10% discount. Read on for all the details…
Saturday, June 23rd
10:30am, 11:30am OR 12:30pm
Annual CSA Strawberry Pickin’ Farm Tour (rain or shine)
Green Thumb Farm
2 Rose Hill Rd (and Montauk Hwy)
Water Mill
For more info and to RSVP:
631-726-1900 (call between 9:30am and 4:30pm)
Directions are basically to go past the Green Thumb Farm
farm stand (if you’re headed east), make the first right and the first driveway
to the right is the path to the farm tour. Park along the road and walk down
the path and there should be a sign-in table right there.
The event is rain (unless it’s an extended torrential
rainstorm) or shine.
Again, we also get a 10% discount on everything purchased at the
farm stand this Saturday if you attend the CSA farm tour.
It’s for CSA members and immediate family only. If you’re
sharing a CSA share, the way people usually work it out is one person/family
goes in June and the other takes October, as your share partner isn’t
recognized as a CSA member by the farm, but they are with the CSA and you would
sign in under the name of the person on the CSA contract.
Suggestion for somewhere to eat before or after your Green
Thumb Farm visit…Bay Burger in Sag Harbor (not far, and everyone I’ve sent
there so far has liked it). The unheralded star of this place are the 2 veggie
sides (from local farms). They may have local beef, sometimes there’s a grass
fed option, TWO veggie options (Black Bean and Falafel) and the best fish
sandwich…ever. These people bake their own burger buns. There’s also locally
made ice cream from Joe & Liza, and craft local beer. There’s also a
separate room if you have younger kids that has kid friendly tv.
