CSA - What you actually got LAST week in the 1st CSA Pickup

Greetings!

Please put in your 2 hours at the CSA (we have till December 10th so we need people from now till then) and consider working the 12 hours as it helps the CSA be a better CSA (and is what helps these “mysteries” from happening)!

Something a CSA member pointed out to me is that we had some youngsters grabbing food and getting it for their folks. We LOVE having children at the CSA and being active participants (really  ), but they do need to be supervised as it’s happened in the past that a little one will grab something, put it in their parent’s bag, and it’s not discovered till they get home that they have someone else’s food. And who has the time to have to deal with getting it to the rightful owner?

CSA Basics 101 – Please read the Wall Chart that the farmer brings in every week, follow the direction on the Wall Chart, and it’s not a bad idea to refer to it before you leave the CSA to make sure you haven’t taken too much OR too little before you leave the CSA. I can’t tell you how many times I have left the CSA, gotten home, and realized I THOUGHT I took everything in the share for the week, didn’t, and it’s too late to do anything about it as anything left over at the end of the night is donated and gone at 7:31pm (unless prior arrangements have been made by CSA members for late pickups).

The Veggie Info Sheet attached to this email is one we didn’t get last week, because we ended up with Spinach instead of the Scallions (on the list of food I thought we were getting last week…the list is subject to occasional change without prior notice  ).

This email includes…

1. What you actually got last week
2. Easy CSA Salad Idea
3. And now for something completely different…

1.What you actually got last week

June 4, 2015

Week #1

1.Jerusalem Artichokes (Sunchokes) – 2/3 lb - $4.00
2.Spinach – ½ lb - $3.00
3.Oregano – 1 bunch - $2.75
4.Lettuce: Oakleaf, Green – 1 head - $2.75
5. Strawberries – 1 qt - $6.50

Total Items: 5
Total Amount: $19.00
It has begun! We pay $18.50 per week for the food the farmer is giving us, and this week he’s given us $.50 more than we paid for. Doesn’t sound like much but see how every little bit extra he gives us adds up over the course of 28 weeks!

2.Easy CSA Salad Idea

First time CSA member Sharon Levy very pleased with her first CSA salad creation…

Lettuce, Green Oak Leaf (CSA)
Jerusalem Artichokes (CSA)
Strawberries (CSA)
Walnuts (not sure where they’re grown)
Goat Cheese (we theoretically could have a Cheese Share)…would also substitute Gorgonzola or Blue Cheese
Sunflower Seeds (not sure where they’d come from either but not grown around here)

Dressing…
Fresh squeezed Lemon Juice (not able to be easily grown in NY  )
Black Pepper, freshly ground (see above)

3.And now for something completely different…

Submitted by CSA member Bettina Barbier…you too can make 2,000 year old bread at home! 
