Happy Summer!

WE HAVE ROOM FOR ABOUT 50 MORE CSA MEMBERS! So, if you know of anyone who’d be interested…have them stop by, contact me, or give them a CSA brochure (we have copies at the sign-in desk).

Anyone go on the farm tour the other weekend? I know some of you did but nobody’s letting me know. Write a few lines and get them into the next CSA email to let your fellow CSA members know what they missed and maybe then they’ll show up for the hayride & Pumpkin picking in October!

Included in this email...

1. Your CSA doesn’t need you this week. You know that won’t last for long!

2. This week’s list (subject to change without notice…farming is like that J )

3. Fun, Cool & Interesting Stuff (new stuff added weekly...really!)

The Green Living Expo is a 2-day event designed to provide Long Island residents and business owners with the information they need to support a greener way of life here on Long Island. “Green Living” is a new concept for many Long Islanders, for others it has been a way of life for years. Regardless of which category you fall into, being “green” is a notion that has firmly taken root in our society.

The Green Living Expo will be the catalyst between businesses, organizations, and consumers looking for information, inspiration, and innovation. It will provide information to help move us in the direction of a lifestyle that is both economically viable and ecologically sound.

The Green Living Expo will have two full days of programming to make the event both educational and fun. Speakers have been selected for their passion, commitment, innovation, and authority on their “green” topic. There is no additional fee required to attend the programs/lectures/classes.

6. News from the Farm

July 3, 2009

July is here…Asparagus and Strawberries are gone! But despite all the rain and cool weather. our Strawberry crop was good. Though they were not as sweet as we would have liked. We needed more sunshine and warmth for that.

It was one of the coldest and wettest (happy agricultural rain is 1 inch per week…4 for the month…and we got about 10 inches for June) Junes on record. Because of this, our other crops have been a week or two slower to come in as well.

Lettuce, herbs and Radishes have all done well. Our Scallions, Carrots, Beets and Fennel are all arriving shortly in addition to Fava Beans and Peas, and then Beans and Squash by mid-month.

Due to all the wet weather our planting schedules have been disrupted. Most of June’s plantings are going in 10 days to two weeks later than normal. Because of this our Tomatoes, Peppers and Eggplants will be later than usual.

Thanks to all who came to visit us on our farm tour last week. It was a wonderful sunny day!

Organically yours,

Farmer Bill (Halsey)
