Happy Spring!
Ahh! The CSA mysteries begin...did anyone by chance happen to accidentally take home an extra bag of Burdock? The reason I'm asking is that we were short one bag at the end of the night. However, I don't think we counted those before the CSA started (though other things were) so it's certainly possible our farmer didn't give us the exact number we needed. That's the reason why it's so important to the CSA that we all know exactly who showed up at the CSA each week and why the CSA Sign-In person needs to have your name checked off each week. Of course you may be wondering...who'd want to take another bag of that??? I would...but I didn't :) .
Thanks to those who patiently waited at the start of the CSA this past week for the News 12 cameras to finish rolling. Apologies to any inconveniences it may have caused!! It's not an every week thing and one needs to take advantage of media opportunities where one can. Our CSA is far from being filled for 2009 and we need to get the word out to help support our farmer and keep him farming (and coming to Huntington) and this, hopefully, will help...in addition to all of us talking to our friends, neighbors, co-workers and anyone else we think who might be interested in CSA and Dines Farm. I've attached a CSA brochure for that purpose (and there should always be copies for you to take at the CSA Sign-In table).
Did you get any samples from Dines Farm BBQing this week? Yum! I'll see if it's possible for this to happen again before mid-May when their Nyack farmer's market kicks in and then Jay will be busy up there and not free to come to BBQ in Huntington.

Macari Vineyard is the original LI vineyard that dared to try sustainable vitacultural practices on Long Island. Why dare? On Long Island, it's the humidity that gets to fruit, not bugs. So, fungicides are the nasty category of "ides" used in this endeavor. Established in 1995 (the family has owned the land...a 500 acre waterfront tract...for the past 50 years), this vineyard has inspired others to do the right (though challenging) thing and use biodynamic vitaculture practices to their credit and to their success!

Regardless of which category you fall into, being “green” is a notion that has firmly taken root in our society.

The Green Living Expo will be the catalyst between businesses, organizations, and consumers looking for information, inspiration, and innovation. It will provide information to help move us in the direction of a lifestyle that is both economically viable and ecologically sound.

The Green Living Expo will have two full days of programming to make the event both educational and fun. Speakers have been selected for their passion, commitment, innovation, and authority on their “green” topic. There is no additional fee required to attend the programs/lectures/classes.
