Happy Spring!

Did anyone by chance notice that they took two Leeks and not one Leek and one Scallion last week? We were short Leeks at the end of the night (they were counted and were correct at the start) and had more Scallions than should have been. Please let me know as we can then solve this mystery. This is for the purpose of information not recrimination J . I believe it happened at the start of the CSA when they were placed next to each other. They looked similar since the Leeks were on the small side. Later on we moved them over to the other side of the greens to eliminate possible confusion.

I’m sorry to say that the News 12 segment on CSA happened yesterday! I don’t have Cablevision so I wasn’t able to see it but CSA member Bettina Barbier captured it and should be able to get it on a DVD. If so, it’ll be shown at the first CSA meeting this season (to be announced). Bettina said it was good and I got about 6 or so emails from people all over LI requesting CSA info (which I have). You can see the blog that it’s mentioned in at…

http://blogs.news12.com/longisland/author/mpmucci/

Someone told me that they may be showing a LONGER version of the News 12 CSA segment over the weekend. I think Mary Mucci has a natural health ½ hour show and I imagine it would be on that. If anyone knows, please let me know and I’ll email her as well. Thanks!

This charming film argues for a return to a fresher, healthier and tastier way of feeding ourselves by following the successful production of great local and seasonal food from field to plate. The people in Tableland are not just farmers and chefs; they are writers, teachers, activists, and leaders of the movement towards a better food system – one that is good clean and fair. It’s about passionate human experiences, beautiful places, great food and community with as much focus on delicious food and where it comes from as the economic and ethical forces behind it.

Called the nation's preeminent food journalist, Mississippi- born Craig Claiborne trained in Switzerland as a chef on the GI bill after World War II. On his return to the United States, he began writing articles for Gourmet and became an editor at the magazine. His career skyrocketed when The New York Times hired him as its first food columnist in 1957. Claiborne's columns, reviews and cookbooks introduced Americans to a wide range of international and ethnic food. Other newspapers followed The New York Times's lead, and soon a cadre of authoritative newspaper food writers helped attune millions of Americans to the finer points of good food and cooking. Our panel explores Claiborne's life, work, and his seminal influence on food journalism in America. With Molly O'Neill, former New York Times columnist, and author of the New York Cookbook; Betty Fussell, author of The Story of Corn and Raising Steaks; Anne Mendelson, author of Stand Facing the Stove, and Milk: the Surprising Story of Milk Through the Ages, and a contributing editor to Gourmet; David Leite, publisher/editor- in-chief, Leite's Culinaria, and author of The New Portuguese Table; John T. Edge, Director, Southern Foodways Alliance, University of Mississippi, contributing editor, Gourmet, author of Southern Belly. The panel will be moderated by Andrew F. Smith, editor of the Oxford Companion to American Food and Drink, and Food Studies professor. Sponsored by the Food Studies Program at The New School.

Regardless of which category you fall into, being “green” is a notion that has firmly taken root in our society.

The Green Living Expo will be the catalyst between businesses, organizations, and consumers looking for information, inspiration, and innovation. It will provide information to help move us in the direction of a lifestyle that is both economically viable and ecologically sound.

The Green Living Expo will have two full days of programming to make the event both educational and fun. Speakers have been selected for their passion, commitment, innovation, and authority on their “green” topic. There is no additional fee required to attend the programs/lectures/classes.
